Well CJ might have won the Mundaka Pro, but Slater stole the show clinching his 9th World Title. All Slater had to do was make a few heats and the title was his. Unfortunately, Tom Whitaker had to spoil his run for another event win and a perfect day to accompany his Championship win. CJ was able to claim his first event win in four years beating out Joel Parkinson in three foot barreling Mundaka waves. Parko had the event win in his grasp, but CJ stole it right from under him in the dying minutes. “If I was Joel I would want to kill me right now,” Hobgood said. “I honestly don’t know how that happened. Some things are just meant to be. I’ve had a very difficult year. I probably struggled with my surfing more than I should have, but that’s life. You get older and life throws curve balls at you and that’s what makes this feeling right now so good.” The next event is Oct 28th-Nov 5th The Hang Loose Santa Catarina Pro in Santa Catarina, Brazil.
