It was an all wildcard final with Bruno Santos defeating fellow wildcard Manoa Drollet. Your favorites just didn't have it in this event. If you went with the usual suspects for your fantasy surfer team for this event you were dissapointed. I know I was. Brazilian surf fans should be excited with Bruno being the first Brazilian to win an ASP WCT event in five years. His path wasn't easy, having to beat these tough heat draws: Mick Fanning, Taj Burrow, CJ Hobgood, and Manoa at his local break. They also have a young countryman Adriano de Souza sitting in the top six in the overall rankings. Slaters early exit narrowed his huge first place lead, which saw Joel Parkinson move up to number two with another strong showing. Maybe Parko is going to make it his year to top the leader board. This event made the world title race a little more interesting heading into event #4 in Fiji next week.
